Project Overview


OmniVersa was commissioned by SANAC Trust to execute a nationwide radio awareness campaign for World AIDS Day 2023 under the theme “Let Communities Lead”. The project aimed to amplify critical HIV/AIDS messaging, reinforce the U=U (Undetectable = Untransmittable) concept, and highlight the country’s progress towards the UNAIDS 95-95-95 targets.

The campaign focused on reaching diverse South African audiences in their home languages across three of the largest African Language Stations (ALS): Ukhozi FM, Lesedi FM, and Phalaphala FM.



Objectives


  • Drive public awareness on World AIDS Day 2023.

  • Disseminate key HIV prevention and treatment messages in isiZulu, Sesotho, and Tshivenda.

  • Ensure visibility of SANAC’s role in leading the fight against HIV/AIDS.

  • Provide platforms for leadership voices, including Deputy President Paul Mashatile, Minister of Health Dr Joe Phaahla, and SANAC Chair Dr Thembisile Xulu.

  • Engage communities through interviews, scripted live reads, and translated content.



Deliverables


1. Live Reads

Customised 30-second radio messages highlighting:

  • SANAC’s leadership role in commemoration events.

  • Promotion of U=U awareness (Undetectable = Untransmittable).

  • Call to action for communities to actively participate.



2. Radio Interviews


  • Three 5-minute live interviews scheduled on 1 December 2023 with SANAC leadership across:

    • Lesedi FM – Ms. Lifutso Motsieloa

    • Phalaphala FM – Rev Zwoitwaho Nevhutalu

    • Ukhozi FM – Dr Thembisile Xulu


  • Interviews were guided by contextual questions addressing:

    • The significance of SANAC’s role in World AIDS Day.

    • This year’s theme and its goals.

    • National progress on 95-95-95 targets.

    • Adoption of U=U in HIV management.

    • How ordinary South Africans can contribute.



3. Script Development & Translation


OmniVersa developed, translated, and localised radio scripts in Zulu, Sesotho, and Venda to ensure inclusivity and accessibility.



4. Media Placement


  • Scheduled across morning, afternoon, and evening prime-time slots between 29 November and 1 December 2023.

  • Stations: Ukhozi FM, Lesedi FM, Phalaphala FM.

  • Campaign tagged under “Omniverse Awareness” placement.

  • Nationwide reach through three of the largest ALS stations with millions of daily listeners.

  • Effective multilingual delivery of HIV/AIDS messages.

  • Promoted community leadership in the national HIV/AIDS response.

  • Reinforced government and civil society collaboration, led by Deputy President Paul Mashatile.



Voice actors used in this campaign are professional radio voice over artists.
